The town council of my hometown approached me for this project considering they no only needed to make some documents public but also to make the public affairs and local events knowable for the population.
So I got in touch with my local photographer and had this idea of make it very graphical, with a big-whole-welcome-screen slider showing the beauty of the city as a background, but also offering the most important sections of the website from scratch. The little city logo and an horizontal hoverable menu would complete this simple and minimalistic yet powerful design with everything the visitor needed.
On the technical side, I made all of this possible using a WordPress install with some tweaks I made myself. All of this considering that there is people in the council that is responsible of uploading new data, so I had to make it very easy to use.
The slider is a custom post type I made, with several modifications. The news and the events calendar follow the same pattern. There's also a file manager that let them upload and organize the files that needs to be shown as a requirement of the central government.
Last but not least, a plugin had to be made in order to extract the Facebook posts of the municipality on its fan page because the person in charge of uploading stuff was too lazy to write the 'news' twice. So I developed a plugin that could extract new FB posts with its picture and store it into the WordPress as a news item.
